Set up rules to filter spam

You can send mail directly to the ‘Trash’ folder based on its subject.

Setting up a rule:

  1. Login to your BigPond email account.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select the ‘Mail’ menu, then select ‘Organize Inbox’
  4. Select ‘Add’ and type in the rule name.
  5. From the drop down, select the desired action (like Move to Trash, Permanent Deletion).
  6. Type the criteria for your rule (like subject name, sender’s name or specific keywords to look out for).
  7. Select ‘Save’.

Blocking the senders

  1. Login to your BigPond email account.
  2. Select the ‘Settings’ option on the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Select ‘Mail’ from the left hand menu.
  4. Select ‘Blocked Senders’ on the sub menu.
  5. In the pop-up screen, enter the email addresses that are to be blocked.
  6. Then, select “Add”.

You can block mail sender from a particular firm using domain blocking method.

What is a domain?

It is the part of the email address after the ‘@’ symbol eg: bigpond@bigpond.com

Domain Blocking

  1. Login to your BigPond email account.
  2. Select the ‘Settings’ option on the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Select ‘Mail’ from the left hand menu.
  4. Select ‘Blocked Senders’ from the sub menu.
  5. In the pop-up screen, enter the domain with the symbols *@ in front of it. For example : *@bigpond.com
  6. Select “Add”

Points to Remember

  1. To block a domain you must enter its whole name exactly the way it appears.
  2. Remember, similar domains won’t blocked. So you’ve to enter all domains separately, no no matter they appear similar.
  3. If you receive unwanted marketing emails, don’t unsubscribe to them as this may validate your email address to spammers, then they will send more of such mails. Block the domain instead.
